What is the Best Video Game System Currently on the Market?
The three main video game systems are currently on the market are; Sony PlayStation 3, XBOX 360 and Nintendo's Wii. All three have very positive pros and depending on your budget some pretty negative cons. Sony's Playstion 3 by far and away has the most potential in terms of system functionality. With Bluetooth controllers, Blu Ray capable DVD drive, all games in HD, and different size hard drives for saving games, music, and photos just to name a few. The PlayStation 3 is not exactly perfect though, first and foremost it is expensive, it has a big and clunky design, and the most frustrating drawback to the PlayStation 3 is its current game selection. A year after its initial launch the game selection for PlayStation 3 can only be described as inadequate at best.
XBOX360 on the other hand has a magnificent selection of games, including a number that are specifically for the XBOX. Like the PlayStation all its games are in High Def, and it has a very user friendly interface. XBOX's online market place makes purchasing mini games, add-on gaming content, high-def movies, and TV shows very easy and convenient. The Xbox360 is more affordable than the Sony PlayStation 3. The XBOX does have some drawbacks though; Its DVD drive and cooling fan are noisy. The power supply is absolutely ridiculous in terms of size. It does not have built-in wireless networking and it only has three USB ports. The DVD player is sub-par at best, and to play HD DVD movies you have to have a bulky external accessory. Online gaming requires a paid subscription to Xbox Live and proprietary wireless format limits your options for third-party accessories.
The Nintendo Wii is the most affordable of the big three game systems. It's revolutionary controller offers a unique motion-sensitive gameplay option. It also has a built-in Wi-Fi capability that delivers free online services and gameplay is scheduled in the near future. The virtual console has major nostalgia appeal. It's compatible with all GameCube games and controllers and it has a built-in SD slot for storage and photo viewing.
The best game system on the market would depend very much on your budget, if you have a limited budget it would be the Nintendo Wii. If you have a less restrictive budget it would be Sony's PlayStation 3 just based on potential alone.
